-Jainists believed that everything had a soul(rocks, sand everything)
-Jainism became popular when Vardhamana Mahavira converted
during 6 century
-He was from a kshytria family
-Left his family when he was 30 to seek salvation by escaping from
cycle of carnation
-He taught himself himself an acetic doctrine of detachment from the
world by living through the Ganges area for 12 years
-Before he died in 468 B.C.E, he exposed his disciplines to other
members which they, called themselves as "Jains"
-Members called him as "jina" or conqueror
-believed that there souls will experience physical and physiological
sufferings, as long as they are trapped in there bodies
-Till they are purificated from selfish believes there souls must remain
inside them
-most people undergo this by doing "ahimsa" or nonviolentic acts
-Jainism had lot of popularity among low class people who didn't have any
respect to the social order of any sort
-It is the faith of small minority, in present day because it is to difficult to
observe for most people
